Doors Open to new learning experience
Falck Nutec, one of the premier training organisations in the UK, has opened of its unique Offshore Training Portal in Aberdeen’s Union Street. Derek Sinclair, UK Managing Director of Falck Nutec, said “Falck Nutec is committed to continuous improvement as demonstrated by the expansion of our training centre last year. We identified a gap in the training scene having carefully listened to comments from our clients - individuals and businesses - and we are responding to this by opening our Offshore Training Portal which will provide a number of extra key services.” “Primarily, we want to provide information and access to individuals regarding the training and job opportunities available within the oil industry. Many individuals, be they trades people, school leavers, catering personnel or ex-Forces personnel find the offshore oil industry confusing. We want to simplify the process from achieving necessary basic training needs to securing the first job offshore.” Falck Nutec’s Portal is manned by people who have knowledge of the training standards which are a prerequisite for working offshore and, importantly, will provide an opportunity for individuals to carry out a skills screening exercise highlighting strengths, deficiencies and the means of achieving required standards. Workstations are available at which computer based training can be carried out thus achieving theoretical knowledge in preparation for practical training at Falck Nutec’s training centres. Derek Sinclair noted “We are the first organisation within our industry to provide such a facility. This value-added service will help our clients to tackle current skills gaps and simplify the recruitment process for individuals by providing a portal/gateway to their offshore careers whilst increasing our brand awareness and demonstrating the breadth of our training capabilities.” (published: 2007-11-20 )

NUTEC AND NETA JOIN FORCES TO ASSIST OFFSHORE TEAM
NUTEC AND NETA JOIN FORCES TO ASSIST OFFSHORE TEAMS MULTIPLY THEIR SKILLS TO MEET THE WOOD GROUP ENGINEERING CHALLENGE Wood Group Engineering (North Sea) Ltd (WGENS) have jointly developed an innovative approach to a forthcoming construction campaign in the harsh North Sea environment. Integral to the approach has been the erection of a full-scale mock up which represents a section of the construction work to be undertaken. The mock-up has been used to develop and verify the construction methodology as well as being a key feature in WGENS’s training programme to significantly extend and prove existing skills and competencies of the offshore workforce. All offshore crews selected for the project have participated in a 10 day training programme incorporating, Lifting, Slinging and Hoist Operation, Confined Space, Radio Communication, Forklift and Abrasive Wheels Training. These have been designed to achieve a sensible level of multi-skilling capability and ensure high standards of safe working. Nutec and Neta have worked very closely with the teams to develop training specific to the workscope. Nutec’s Jill Chalmers, Business Development Manager, comments “We are delighted to be involved in such an intense project and have gained a wealth of knowledge and experience from this, which has now given us the ability to take this forward with future developments” To enable the workforce to develop and practice the safe working methods and techniques necessary for the project, the mock-up has been constructed onshore to provide a central focus for the training programme. Mort Jaskolski, Project Manager Comments “Nutec responded very positively to our request for tailor made training to suit our requirements. We see this approach to preparing construction personnel for the challenges of the offshore workscope as being the way forward for future projects” Following the extensive training and offshore preparation activities, the crew will start work offshore in October 2003.
